This story was written by Warrior Jak in response to the following prompt: Be a building that you know well. Talk about your life and memories. Jak is from Suratthani but has spent the last 5 years living abroad in Austrailia.
November 2015 – I don't remember much, except seeing the ground getting dug up until they reach the bedrock and hearing the name humans give me, Alpha 12. Heavy rain and thunder storms cause them to stop several times. Some of them get sick and have minor injuries. I'm satisfied.
January 2016 – Most of the deep foundations have been laid in the bedrock. I'm pissed. I shake the ground as hard as I can. The construction is called off for the moment due to a 4.0 Richter earthquake. But that doesn't really stop them. They eventually get the pile caps done over the next few days.
February 2016 – They're building the ground floor really quickly today. I cause a landslide on purpose. Two builders die and a few are injured. One of the backhoes breaks down too. I nearly die laughing. They have to pay quite a fortune for the loss. I can hear the engineering manager say that my Feng Shui is bad. I chuckle.
May 2016 – The construction's gone progressively well, and quick. So far, they've built 16 floors. No matter what I do to stop them, they always come back with better plans. I remember collapsing floor 13. They rebuilt it and made it floor 14 instead. So basically I'm a building without floor 13. Smart humans.
July 2016 – They halt the construction again due to a financial problem. Now I'm left with 37 floors without the rooftop. Stupid humans, you can never agree with each other when it comes to money, can you? The block next to me has now got a promising skyscraper going. They're still at the drilling stage, however.
August 2016 – Nothing new for me. No construction since July. They did give me some trees, bushes, and grass last week, however. And the skyscraper? She's got her 42nd floor done already, together with her curvy design. I think they call her Mermaid Esplanade or something. What a fancy name.
September 2016 – I've heard that some bad people like to use abandoned buildings to trade drugs and commit various types of crimes. If they ever come and do that here I'll fucking kill them all. Damn you builders, where are you? Don't leave me like this. Come back and finish what you started. Right now my current top floor is flooded with rain. And it's not going to hold forever.
November 2016 – Some young boys come in today to spray paint graffiti on the ground floor. I wish I could collapse the ceiling above them, but no, I can't. At this stage, doing that would only destroy me completely. So I have to watch until the last brat finishes his graffiti and throws the spray can at my wall as he runs off.
January 2017 – Here they are. The builders. Thank God. I'd given up hope already. They start to build me again under a new contractor. They had to take it to the court to decide who's got the right to keep building me. Not that I care though. Oh, and you want to know how my neighbour’s doing? She's in trouble. They're having a financial problem building her too. Hahaha..
April 2017 – If my neighbour was a human then she'd be in a coma. That's it for her. She's now going through an auction to find a new contractor and investors. Actually, I feel bad for her too considering that she's my only neighbour. Anyway, I had my 80th floor done last month. They're now installing doors, windows, and major appliances. My grand opening is in two weeks. I can't wait for it to happen!
“Wipe it all.”
“I said wipe it all. It's all done. Move on to the next version.”
“But sir, you know that's not necessary. We can keep it. At least we can save the blueprint?”
“We only keep good ones, remember? This Alpha 12 is only a waste of data. It took too long and the interior design is mediocre. We made a lot of mistakes. Also, we won't need trees and bushes for Alpha 12.1.”
“Got it, sir.”
“By the way, Alpha 13 will be the last alpha. After that we'll work on a brand new architecture 3D simulator called Jakarus. We'll have a fresh start with Beta 0.0 from then. So, wipe it all.”
